BALTIMORE, Maryland (LifeSiteNews) — The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops (USCCB) will not revise its voting guide until after the 2024 election.
The guide, titled “Forming Consciences for Faithful Citizenship,” calls abortion the “preeminent” issue for Catholic voters.
It states:
The threat of abortion remains our preeminent priority because it directly attacks life itself, because it takes place within the sanctuary of the family, and because of the number of lives destroyed. At the same time, we cannot dismiss or ignore other serious threats to human life and dignity such as racism, the environmental crisis, poverty and the death penalty.
“Gathered in Baltimore for their annual fall assembly, the bishops voted Wednesday to keep the guidance the same but include a new introduction and ‘supplemental inserts, to be ready before the 2024 election,” the Catholic News Agency reported.

Heterodox bishops objected to this approach.
“Bishop John Stowe, OFM, of Lexington, Kentucky, said revisions were needed in time for the next election to take account of the attack on the Capitol on Jan. 6 and the division and polarization in the country. ‘I think the time [to revise the document] is now,’ he said,” according to the Catholic news outlet.
Bp. Stowe has endorsed the LGBT agenda and also cracked down on both the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) and Novus Ordo masses said ad orientem. Stowe has a history of pro-LGBT activity, which includes issuing a homosexual “pride” “prayer card” insinuating that God approves of homosexuality and transgenderism. He also banned priests who did not take the abortion-tainted COVID jabs from ministering to the sick and housebound. Despite his criticism of “polarization,” Stowe quickly condemned the Covington Catholic high school students who were wrongly accused of swarming and harassing a Native American man at the March for Life in 2019.
Cardinal Robert McElroy, another supporter of the LGBT agenda, also objected to the decision.
The San Diego cardinal “echoed [Bp. Stowe’s] remarks, adding that people are ‘uneasy’ and looking for guidance on how to govern themselves ‘in a way that divisions and bigotry are not the hallmarks’ of our political system.”

Cdl. McElroy “has sparked outrage for celebrating ‘LGBT Masses,’ rebuking the Church’s position on homosexual acts, urging Catholic funeral rites for active homosexuals, and throwing his support behind dissident Jesuit Fr. James Martin while blasting conservatives’ ‘destructive’ attitudes on sexuality,” LifeSiteNews previously reported. “No bishop has defended giving Communion to pro-abortion politicians as vigorously as McElroy, who equates abortion with ‘climate change’ and rejects the idea that abortion is the singular, ‘pre-eminent’ moral issue facing the U.S. Church.”
Cdl. McElroy also eliminated two of three TLM churches in his diocese.
